Review of Labour Ward written by a patient
12th December 2017

Fantastic treatment from the start, exceptional care starting from when we arrived on the ward. The midwife was very compassionate and explained every step of the labour to me and my husband as we progressed. The facilities were excellent. Overall a very positive and wonderful birth experience. We are very thankful.

I’ve been meaning to to write this review ever since I gave birth on 2nd September but hadn’t quite realised how little time I would have after giving birth to our son. I would like to say how impressed we were with our midwife ainsley rooke. She took over my care after the first few hours of arriving at the midwife led unit and immediately put me at ease with her confidence. SHe was assertive without being over bearing, she was clearly very competent, very calm, very warm and evidently excellent at her role as a midwife. Our sons birth didn’t go exactly to plan and despite doing a Hypnobirthing course I ended up in theatre for an episiotomy and forceps. Ainsley explained everything to us and gave the reasons why my treatment plan had changed. She really was excellent. She had a student midwife with her and together they really looked after us in a respectful way and our aftercare from them was excellent. I would be grateful if you could pas on this praise to ainsley and i strongly feel it is important for her to have this feedback. On a different note- I felt a little dissapointed at the midwife led unit itself. I had heard great things however when I arrived it had to be opened up for my arrival and was very cold. The first midwife we had did not know how to close down the air con unit and so I was labouring in a cold environment. There seemed a lack of understanding about how deep to fill the birthing pool and instead of the warm relaxed environment I was expecting I felt the unit was under used, very cold and clinical and not conducive to a relaxed birth. I appreciate this was not any individuals fault but it would be lovely If this unit was utilised- I would very much like to give birth in the midwife led unit if I am lucky enough to have a second child. For now, I can tell praise ainsley rooke enough and would be grateful if you could pass on my sentiments. Best wishes Zoe moulds

I want to say a HUGE thank you to the midwives and doctors on the war who made my birth experience a positive one despite a very difficult back labour. I was treated with great compassion, individual attention, and exceptional professionalism throughout, which is something I greatly appreciate - even mpre so knowing how busy everyone on the ward is. The individual attention afforded me in these circumstances was wonderful! I particularly would like to thank Karen, Ainsley and Hazel on the Labour ward and Rosie on the post-natal ward for their wonderful support and for the sage delivery of my baby. I would also like to thank the consultant on duty, whose name I unfortunately do not remember, but who was a great source of support. Everyone made me feel that I and my baby were safe which is the best thing any new mum can ask for. Thank you so much!!

I was admitted to HRI in on May 14th 2017 to have a tumour removed from my brain. The Staff on Ward 4 and 40 are outstanding. Also ICU (although I cannot remember this bit = my family told me they were). They were all amazingly patient and professional, nothing was too much trouble for them, they were certainly my angels. Paul, the ward manager on ward 4 is not to be left out either (although his wings are slightly larger) - lol I would like to include the physio staff who do a steller job. I willl be forever grateful.

The care I received throughout my pregnancy at the day unit was brilliant. Staff are all so caring and do a brilliant job with limited resources. I was induced due to complications and this decision was made within hours of the complication arising. During the delivery itself, myself and baby were monitored 24/7 and both were given a very high level of care. The final moments of my delivery became traumatic but had a very positive outcome, I personally feel due to the individual midwife assisting my delivery and her level of care and experience. I feel I would have had an assisted delivery with a less experienced midwife. She was also wonderful in ensuring I had an hours skin to skin post delivery. It was also brilliant to see the level of training being given to the student midwives.
